Most of the people giving me a ride say that they do or did hitch-hiking, too. But is it always like this? Every ex-hitchhiker stop to give a ride? Do YOU stop? And what about the ones giving often a lift but don't know the feeling of standing on the side of the road?...

I have also found that most drivers who pick me up while hitchhiking have also hitchhiked themselves. More than 2/3 of men and at least 1/3 of women.

I stop for hitchhikers when I can, because I relate to them! As for those who give lifts who have never hitchhiked, I think they would sometimes like to understand the experience, or simply feel sympathy for the hitchhiker.
